How Tempo & Tab handles your data

In short: the Attendance add-on runs entirely inside your own Google account, on your own copy of the spreadsheet. Tempo & Tab does not operate a server that receives, stores, or has access to your data. Your students' names, attendance, and notes stay in your Google Drive, under your school's existing Google Workspace agreement — not ours.

What the add-on does

The Attendance add-on is a Google Apps Script tool that runs inside a Google Sheet you own or have been given a copy of. It automates tasks like saving daily attendance, building per-class dashboards, and organizing tabs — all using Google's own Sheets, Drive, and Apps Script services, running under your Google account's own authorization.

What data it accesses, and why

Depending on the permissions you approve during installation, the add-on may request access to:

The spreadsheet you're using it in — to read and write attendance records, student rosters, and notes you enter yourself.
Basic script triggers — to run automatically when you open the sheet or edit a cell (for example, to update a saved/unsaved status).

The add-on requests the narrowest scope Google allows for each feature. It does not request access to your Gmail, Calendar, or other files in your Drive beyond the spreadsheet you're using it in.

Where your data lives

All data the add-on works with — student names, attendance statuses, notes, contact information — is stored in the Google Sheet itself, inside your own Google Drive. It is subject to whatever sharing and retention settings you or your school district have configured for that file. Tempo & Tab does not copy, log, or transmit this data to any external server, database, or third party.

Student data & school policies

Because you control the spreadsheet, you are the data controller for any student records you enter into it. If your school or district has a data privacy policy (including FERPA-related requirements in the U.S.), that policy governs how you use this tool with student information — the same way it would govern a spreadsheet you built yourself. We recommend using your school-issued Google Workspace account, not a personal account, when working with student data.

Third parties

Tempo & Tab does not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or other third parties. The add-on does not include analytics or advertising code.

Your control over your data

You can revoke the add-on's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page. Deleting the spreadsheet, or the rows/tabs within it, deletes the data — there is no separate copy stored by Tempo & Tab.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what data the add-on accesses or how it's used, we'll update this page and revise the "last updated" date above.
